EDM/Laser Cutting/Welding
Electrical discharge machining, or EDM for short, uses electric arcing discharges to create micro-craters that rapidly result in complete cuts. EDM, also known as spark machining, is used in applications requiring complex geometrical shapes in hard materials and at close tolerances. It requires the base material to be electrically conductive, which limits its use to ferrous alloys.
Some of the advantages of EDM are the ability to machine complex shapes along with the ability to machine very hard metals to close tolerances. It can also be used on very small workpieces where other cutting tools may damage the part from too much pressure. Because there isn’t any direct contact between the EDM tools and the workpiece, delicate sections and weak materials can be machined without any pressure distortion. Very fine holes can be attained, and tapered holes may be produced.

Laser cutting is a fabrication process which employs a focused, high-powered laser beam to cut material into custom shapes and designs. This process is suitable for a wide range of materials, including metal, plastic, wood, gemstone, glass, and paper, and can produce precise, intricate, and complex parts without the need for custom-designed tooling.
Laser cutting is suitable for a variety of metal and non-metal materials, including plastic, wood, gemstone, glass, and paper. As mentioned in the previous sections, the type of material being cut and its properties largely determine the optimal cutting mechanism, cutting gas and cutting gas pressure, and laser machine to use for the laser cutting application.
laser cutting offers several advantages. These include:
- Greater cutting precision and accuracy
- Higher quality edges
- Narrower kerf widths
- Smaller HAZ and less material distortion
- Less material contamination and waste
- Lower maintenance and repair costs
- Greater operator safety

Welding services can come from a variety of sources and can offer several different types of consumer needs. For whatever type of building needs that you may have, welding services can help make things easier. Welding is used to join together two separate pieces of metal. By creating heat and pressure through the surfaces of the metal, boundaries on the surface will disappear and be connected through crystals developing on the surface to connect the two pieces.
There are various different types of welding available:
- Metal Inert Gas welding (MIG welding) is where continuous metal wire is fed into the point that the two pieces are being joined together.
- Tungsten Inert Gas welding (TIG welding) uses inert gas (i.e. helium or argon) generating heat via an electric arc between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the metal.
- Robotic welding (also known as automated welding) is done by an automated system or robot using controllers and sensors.
- Aluminum welding has a much lower melting point than steel and is a delicate process usually carried out with TIG welding.
